Thank you Jamyang -la for doing this. This is for our children. I have utmost respect for His Holiness the Dalai Lama. But I just can’t trade the right of my children and choose to give up freedom and democratic rights to live under China.
I sincerely think that if His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Sikyong Lobsang Sangay believe that it is best to live under China, the so called ‘future super-power’ and ‘economic power house’, they should plan for grand departure. I say this without any hatred.
For those of us who believe otherwise, we will find something to keep our struggle and will stand with those trying to escape communist China.

I being born as a tibetan, want to oppologise to those freedom fighters that we were unable to carry your torches and was not able to fulfill your wishes.
World has change and we need to reform but acting like a cultural revolution again in exile is very heartbreaking.

This is how a mature citizen behaves in a civilized world, not like some medieval princelings trying to scare people with life span reduction. I hope we realize we live in the 21st century and not in the 17th century. In a democracy, everyone has the freedom of speech and movement! Rangzen supporters should have freedom of speech. They should not be silenced and bullied! If they are campaigning for Rangzen, it is their birthright! No emotional blackmailing should be done.
TGIE and members of parliament should have freedom of movement. They should be allowed to move back to live in Tibet under CCP if that is what they want!
What they shouldn’t do is to coerce and force everyone to agree to it through bullying and emotional blackmail.
We are a democracy, you see. Democracy is not a tyranny of the majority.
So those who have to be publicly lynched have been named it seems! And now the lynching is happening and being led by powers that be in Dhasa!
What democracy is this? What retirement from politics is this? What civil society is this?
Both Tibetan Democracy and Tibetan Freedom are doomed! Ask our poor fellow countrymen in Tibet to stop killing themselves. It is not worth it!

Jamyangla – please make this lecture as loud and clear as possible that we as Tibetans have the right to defend our cause for Independence. The dirty politics and scare tactics of the CTA upon those for Rangzen, must end period. As Tibetans, it is our birth right to fight for our country and brethren. No one has the right to silence our struggle. Such embarrassing discussions in light of the recent public humiliation by parliamentarians, make a mockery of our so called democracy. We are behaving no less than the PRC, where dissent is squashed and policies rubber stamped to please the leadership.

Dear Choenyi Woser, you write that the last Tibetan Parliamentary session offered a spectacle that recalled the days of the Chinese Cultural Revolution. If what happened was not even grotesque, one might even recall the days of the Holy Office of the Inquisition with the trials against an individual accused of heresy. The resolution which calls for an apology to His Holiness recalls the Abjuration (solemn repudiation) imposed by the inquisition and one wonders if one day it will not come also the Auto-da-fé (execution by burning).
Let’s be serious: the life span of His Holiness the Dalai Lama may possibly depend on the balance of His Tripa, Beken, Lung and not from what Karma Chophel feels in his heart.
Probably what we saw in the Tibetan Parliament was not the Mangtso (democracy) that the Dalai Lama had in mind with his historic political devolution of 8 August 2011.
The Tibetan Parliament seems to have lost touch with reality. On 10 March this year, here in Europe, thousands of young Tibetans marched through the streets of Brussels shouting slogans in favour of Rangzen. The Tibetan People’s movement for Middle Way of Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche seems to fail to stop this wave of flood.
Now it is important that the best pro-Rangzen Tibetan minds elaborate and make public a programme based on nonviolence and on empowerment of Tibetans living in Tibet, with the clear and stated goal of what Gandhi called “Purna Swaraj”, that is the total independence of Tibet. This document will be precious to prove to all Tibetans (especially in view of the next general elections) and to the whole world, that RANGZEN IS POSSIBLE.
The problem with “Tibetan Exile Government System” is that it does not have a platform from where those who don’t agree with the official policy can speak their mind openly and without fear of being ostracized. It is the lack of political parties. That is the reason why CTA is dominated by a few people who constantly tout their faith and loyalty to HHDL as if that alone constitutes accomplishments. Look at Penpa Tsering. What has he accomplished? What has he done for the sake of our cause and where does he get the nerve to accuse people like Jamyang la and Dhondup Lhadar la, whose achievements clearly speaks for themselves, for hurting our cause. There are a lot of Chithues who are clearly Rangzen believers, but can’t speak up because of fear of being accused of hurting DL’s feeling.
Tibetan National Congress (TNC) will play an important role in creating a political environment in which people can freely express their political opinion without fear and the ideals of democracy are truly honored. The only thing TNC has to do is consolidate the Rangzen voices and represent them in the CTA. And that can be achieved if people sign up for membership and pledge allegiance to the ideals and goals TNC represents.
We Rangzen believers are no small number, in fact, I would say we are majority. But the problem is we don’t have a body that represent our voice. TYC still has Rangzen as its goal, but at the same time it also pledges to never oppose HHDL or his policies a.k.a MWA. So, basically TYC is an organization with contradictory objectives. Apart from that, SFT, Chushi Ghangdruk and Guchusum are NGOs. GuChusum just recently changed its goal to MWA – http://tinyurl.com/lqjupp6
So, TNC is the only organization, now it seems, which has the strength and the resources to unite the Rangzen voices and represent them in our exile democratic system. TNC’s resolution clearly states that it believes in democracy and recognize HHDL as the symbol of Tibetan Nation. So TNC is clearly NOT anti Dalai Lama. It is rather Pro-Rangzen and Pro Democracy.
As I see it we are already in a mass movement. We only need a body that represents this movement. I am sure TNC can serve as that body.

#12 – yes would be educative for everyone. In our democracy would be good to hear both sides of the case.
Fortunately I can follow Jamyang Norbu’s Lhasa accent with my knowledge & spoken dzachuka dialect – quite strange.
Tibetan National Congress (TNC) I like the name, and the symbolic connection to ANC. It is exciting to witness a watershed event, a new opposition political party taking birth in diaspora, which may result in some much needed sea change in the exile political landscape. I wish all the people involved lot of luck and patience.
You will need that patience believe me. Very gusty thing to do, but then again, Kundun is the one who gave us democracy and opposition parties are essential for healthy democratic process as checks and balances, whereas, a one party system is not accountable nor transparent.
One would assume, from his many comments lauding democracy and all that it stood for, that Kundun is also happy with the formation of TNC, at least now, some well educated Tibetans with vision are stepping up to the fore. Many a times in the past Kundun had expressed a wish that the Tibetan people shoulder some of his responsibilities, and later stepping down from politics altogether.
After seeing part of the video of Speaker Pempa Tsering’s talk at upper TCV in June 2013, has completely confirmed my belief. The constant slamming remarks on Jamyang Norbula, and towards Rangzen advocates, tell me that the Speaker and the Sikyong, don’t seem genuine in their motives for the cause of Tibet, or Tibetan democracy.
They seem to advance their own position and stature by pleasing His Holiness; I am sorry to say, but this is what appears to me. It was embarrassing and upsetting to see and hear the kind of disingenuous talk from the Speaker, waving his finger to the students, while remarking that men like Jamyang Norbu, are about self importance.
How so wrong and far from the truth could the Speaker be about Jamyangla. With this kind of dirty politics in Dharamsala, by self serving politicians, there seems to be no hope for real democracy and freedom of speech in the current CTA.
To slander and silence Rangzen advocates by using His Holiness’s name is shameful and manipulative, as an easy way out for these selfish, dishonest public servants. Such conduct displayed by immature officials tell us of the kind of set up in CTA.
Some have already voiced that therefore, the need for multi political parties is a must, to prevent such rigidity and intolerance by one party system of democracy. This should be all the more reason to strengthen TNC, the future opposition party for a transparent Tibetan democratic system.
I hope that this upcoming lecture platform by Jamayangla in Tibetan, be as effective as possible, to address the discrepancies in our leadership and administration, and finally bolster our fight and struggle for Tibetan Independence.
Be brave and true by speaking up your mind, for truth and justice will always prevail in the end. Thank you so very much Jamayangla, for all the selfless work, guidance and hope you offer us Tibetans, in the fight for our country.

Although my comprehension of the Tibetan language is rather pathetic and therefore have little idea what the host is asking, I understood fairly well Jamyang Norbu’s replies. Made some great observations, shared some not so great experiences in Meccasala, and even managed to explain why NG was banned. Hahhahahahaha

Highly intellectual, modest but uncompromising (in relation to his stand on independance) talk. No bitterness, no finger pointing at anyone. And putting himself squarly in the middle of the Tibetan struggle, with His Holiness the Dalai Lama as the supreme head of the Tibetan Nation.

Can you please stop calling Japan as Ripin.
Ripin is Chinese word. And Japan is a terminology created by Westerners.
Japanese call Japan as Nihon. It roughly translates to “Origin of Sun”. Ni=sun (just as we call sun as nyima) and Hon means the Origin.
Japanese call themselves nihon-jin. JIn=people. So, Nihon jin translates very well into Nihon-pa, or Nihon-mi in Tibetan.
Why can’t we Tibetans call Japan as Nihon (instead of using the Chinese word Ripen) and Japanese as Nihon-pa. I am 100% sure that Japanese will love themselves be called a Nihon-pa by Tibetans than being called ripin-pa by us.
BTW, this country has so much to offer Tibetans in terms of how a relativelyly backward Asian country can develop into a modern country, or how a country steeped deeply in medevial theology/feudalism can rise up to be one of world’s leading country. I intent to write about these when I retire; not too into the distant future.

Jamyang la, Thukche chey for the excellent lecture. It was inspiring and compelling upon us to carry on the Rangzen torch. Your speech was insightful and informative with updates and news of our current Tibetan situation in global times. I feel with more such talks in our communities, will garner much greater impact, towards the Rangzen message.
It makes tremendous sense for Tibetans worldwide, to demonstrate peacefully towards these gold, lithium and other mineral mining company headquarters, that exploit Tibet in cahoots with China. I believe these demonstrations will have greater impact as you have said, than shouting for ‘Free Tibet’ on the streets.
Such actions are more impacting when we press on matters that involve billions of dollars at Tibet’s cost. These types of action you call, are peaceful and appealing toward mass support Internationally, if organized well. As such TNC could spearhead in such organized demonstrations, with your assistance at least in the initial stages.

I hate always being right; when while back on the now defunct phayul forum, I prophesied that this creature will have a bright future in Dharsa. Why? Because while in power, this guy acted like a fascist Nazi, a self serving person who cunningly used other people to further his own ends all the while projecting himself as some kind of a saviour of the Tibetan community, and the Bringer of The Dalai Lama to Toronto! And he was well rewarded for it by the gullible people.
He should fit right in Dharsa, like hand to glove, the Dalai Lama can always use more Norbu Tserings.
I have zero confidence in conservative Tibetans like Norbu Tsering to stand up for what is right, to do the right thing, even in the teeth of majority opposition, even tho, as the North American Rep, you would assume, if anyone would defend the rights, the freedom of expression,that it would be a NA chitue who would do so. But,no, this guy was the most vociferous of all chitues, in his condemnation of Karma Chopel. Alas, it was no great surprise he did what he did knowing the character and habits of this person, therefore no great disappointment either.
However, I am more than a little disappointed with the other, albeit former North American rep, now a Kalon, Dikyi Choyyang,(in whom I had pinned my hopes on for a more honest and just politician)for not defending the Rights of Karma Chophel in the parliament. If she has objected in private, or did as Chitue Dhardon Sharling, my apologies.

I agree Dickyi Choyang has been a major disappointment. Perhaps she too has become the victim of the spell that most of our politicians are condemned to suffer. Why stand with the choir if you are not going to sing with them. At least have the guts to show where you stand. You are not doing any good by being a silent witness while your team members engage medieval expurgation.
We need to be inpsired by teeneagers like Malala Yousufzai, who took a bullet in her neck for fighting the injustices of the Taliban. Our officials must stand up when policies affecting our plight are not right. They must speak up their minds and engage debate, if they have any moral consturcts, not sing with the choir.

Without political freedom there won’t be any economic, cultural or religious freedom. This Tibetans knew very well hundreds of years ago and fought many sectarian wars.
Leaders in exile says tibet is for Tibetans but when Tibetans inside tibet did not want to hoist Chinese flags, oppose to Chinese rules, they r not listening.It is just hypocrite and it is sad that they r in denial. Not facing up to the reality.
We r not like my parents generation where they listen wholeheartedly. We r generations where we know whether people who preached or talk walk he walk.
When exile TIBETANS talk about rang zen, they bash and put into some sort of cultural revolution drama that we saw recently in chitue lentsog.
But when samething occurred inside tibet, they use as a propaganda for foreign countries, begging support and saying they did not have human rights,
It is just pity to see our own exile govt. going that. I stopped going to Dhasa now a days for I do not have faith now. It is all now loyalty, buttering up,chela.
What Tenzin 54. has said is so true about the hypocracy of CTA, which has become anti Rangzen. Instead of defending and seeking support towards the brave acts of our countreymen in Tibet; CTA continues to ignore their calls for a free Tibet. With an administration run by a bunch of minions and yes men in Dhasa, there is no hope there for Rangzen, or for those brave souls standing up to PRC. We will never uphold the Chinese flag, as long as you are a true Tibetan.
Yes. I hope leaders in the CTA can explain why Tibetans inside Tibet are risking their lives refusing to raise that flag, if, as they claim, it is true that the Tibetans in Tibet support the middle way advocates desire to live under China.
the recent capitulation of the once proud -Tibetan Youth Congress & Gu-Chu-Sum of their Rangzen platform have left them scrambling (in competition to prove their loyalty) as one of the many servile followers of the MWA,can these groups ever again say Free Tibet with a straight face?

Tibetan people resist the harsh chinese occupation inside, and this fact give some hope that it might establish tibetan army there that will knock PLA one day
also the recent chinese worry about foreign army in mustang attract my attetnion about whats going on there..it might be there is some countries thinking building tibetan resistance group??? something hard to think, but who knows, it might be???

It is unbecoming of TYC and Gu Chu Sum to fold their principles to appease MWA. Once a proud TYC member, today I am ashamed of how our office bearers have given up our core principle. It must be reminded that MWA approach is not a kind of religion to be followed, as it has been cleverly aligned. Rangzen is a political struggle and right, that is above our preference of leaders or religious beliefs. The CTA has not become a mature democractic function, where freedom of speech is allowed in an unbiased and tolerant manner. Lack of such a crucial element in our so called democracy, gives rise to groups like TYC and GCS to give into pressure from the leadership, which treats the cause on a religious scale, with the Guru on top still preaching, and not listening to the actual calls.
Jamyang la, I would like to join TNC organization but not through online or have my family knows I am joining it. Is there any way I can join without attracting attention to myself? Is TNC membership confidential?

Membership is personal and confidential. It is between TNC and the individual. There are also members from within Tibet itself who are not even on the main list and only the president and few select executive members will know about it. We take the security of their identity very very seriously. We definitely welcome members to openly support us but it is not imperative. The important thing is you to join the organization and support in any way you can. I know you asked Jamyang La for his opinion but since it looks like he is busy right now, I hope my explanation will suffice for now.
@61’s comment was rather flippant and uncalled for – what is wrong with being concerned about privacy? Privacy is a big issue in the western world and I am glad TNC is taking the issue seriously, otherwise it is like preparing a neat list for any hacker, government agencies etc… Even if you have nothing to hide people can use your name etc to do stuff in your name without your knowing…

Now TNC must go full out with rallies and public meetings in our communities. It must go on the offensive and vocalise all the defects and mistakes of the MWA polices, bearing in mind that Tibetans in Tibet, have given up their lives for the Rangzen struggle. TNC must come out strong and neutralize the MWA position. It must win over those fence sitters and people who have lost faith in MWA, to pledge their support for Rangzen through the TNC platform. Courage and bravity must prevail in leading TNC principles, if it is to succeed as a major political organization. India and the world over where exile Tibetans reside, live in democratic nations, where TNC members need not fall into pressure from Dhasa politics and control.

Sikyong LS might to not be averse to TNC, unless Jigme Ugen is bluffing when he says the Sikyong welcomed the formation of TNC.
Meanwhile, hope for any of unbiased reporting, leave alone interviews /discussions about TNC and Rangze by VOA and FRA is dwindling so say th least.
While we don’t expect VOA to practice real journalism per say, RFA is reputed for fair and balanced reporting i,e, before Ngapo Jigme’s ouster . (By the way, what is going or not going on with Jigme?).
Here is what hear is churning up at RFA under its news director. Mr. Tethong might be enjoying the perks theres, but there is no indication that he in charge of the Tibetan Service. Kalden Lodoe, in total collusion with Libby is pulling the strings. Benpa Topgyal, who replaced Karma Dorjee as the assistant director is carrying orders from his God Father Kalden.. Karma Dorjee, insiders say, managed to survive with a new position as senior program advisor -whatever it means, If things stay like ths, and Tethong fails to assert leadership, the rest of the staff will soon loose hope,
As I am doing this, a reliable rumor is afoat: Kalden Lodoe will be promoted to Benpa’s post as a senior editor much to be disgust of the majority of the staff. I was told Libby took Kalden to meet again with His Holiness in New York last week. Did anyone know about it or saw them accosting His Holiness’ entourage, May be some photos!!!!
My heart goes out to the RFA general spineless staff, who are having a very hard time in carrying out their responsibilities professionally. And the biggest fear is: Is Tethong sold out to Libby/Kalden intrique?

I think the CTA or Dalai Lama must learn from Hong Kong now..people are feding up, although they do have much much freedom than Tibet
Hong Kong people understand china very will, they know how to tackle chinese, but unfortunatly, many tibetans not.

It’s an interesting read. But as is usual with our Tibetan discussions there is the abscess of “how dare you criticize CTA and HH” blackmail which can reduce a good work to a “meh” status very quickly.
Before worrying about market for our “future Steve Jobs’s” why not persuade China to put the street signs of local areas in the local language.
There are many nations on earth that are landlocked and are doing quite well.
The rainbow analogy can be used more so with Middle Way since that’s been the official policy of CTA since the 1970’s and hasn’t done a thing for Tibetans in Tibet. Whatever limited material success they enjoy right now is due to change in China itself. NOt because exiles did anything for THEM. We did a lot for ourselves. After all we succeeded in becoming the world’s cutest pet. A pet that can say !o mani peme hung.
Except for the unequivocal bias against Rangzen and quoting Jamyang NOrbu’s banyan tree ananlogy out of context and twisting it for “criticizing HH” blackmail effect, the rest of the work is interesting to read.

Also Quebec may be a province of Canada (which the writer claims is not Sovereign by the way) but Quebec always has the right to hold referendum on sovereignty from time to time and has held such referendums in the past. Similar agreement exists between UK and Scotland. Does MWA provides for such rights for Tibet?
